The Education & Public Programs intern will assume a lead role in developing family program activities and materials related to several exhibitions Kehinde Wiley, the annual Artists-In-Residence exhibition (July 16-Oct 26.); Harlem Postcards and Expanding the Walls. Aspects of the intern's work related to Family Fun and other family programs will include: researching artwork featured in upcoming exhibitions, developing take-home activities for the summer and fall 2007 exhibition seasons, organizing supply lists, logistics, preparation of timelines, and working with the education team to develop and implement new outreach opportunities designed specifically for family programs.
Other responsibilities include: assisting with Family and Youth Programs, working on other interpretive materials, participating in training that will prepare him/her to work with groups in the galleries, observing and assisting educators with tours and workshops. Intern will also assist in the development of programs for Target Sundays at The Studio Museum in Harlem, a new family, youth, adult, and senior programming initiative starting Summer 2008.
This internship is an opportunity for students to develop a complete understanding of institutional programming. They will learn all of the steps necessary to create a program from beginning to end, while learning how an arts institution serves diverse audiences.
Applicants are expected to have excellent writing and research skills. Some background in Africana Studies, art history, literature is helpful. Interest in working with children and communities is required. The internship requires that the student organize all aspects of projects before presenting them to the project team. The intern will learn how to work independently, understand accountability and how to report to a project team.
