Library Assistant Intern

Neue Galerie

The museum has an in-house library that focuses on German and Austrian artists from 1890-1940, and is intended for research by museum staff.  In spring of 2012, the library will be expanded to accommodate the growing volume of books.

In this placement, the intern will work with multiple departments, as the library is integrated in the administrative floor with its mostly open office spaces.  This intern will work closely with the Book Store Director to sort and organize the library, review and update the existing database, and create a system to monitor when books are removed from the library.  Because of the central location of the library, the aesthetic details of its organization are very important.

In the second component of the internship, the intern will work with our Communications Manager to raise the interest in our Book Store in social media, and research other independent bookstores and their presence in social media to help us assess how we can raise awareness for our own store.  The intern will select a current publication related to the Neue Galerie collection and write a review for the museum’s Facebook site to draw attention to the museum’s exhibitions and bookstore.

Interested candidates who meet all eligibility requirements should submit all parts of their applications by e-mail to the contact below. Please see this website’s “HOW TO APPLY” section for more details.

Qualifications:

The intern should have an interest in library science, art history, and/or German culture, as well as working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel.  S/he should be passionate about books, have excellent organizations skills and an eye for detail.
