Education Intern The ICA plans to expand its programming to include a second seasonal location with a target date of summer 2018. The intern will conduct research and create a working document on the history and use of this site to build out programs in the Education Department.
The intern will focus on researching the past and current history of the Boston Harbor Shipyard and create materials (FAQ sheet and documentation providing historical overview) for the development of interpretive materials that can be used by staff and the general public. The intern will also work closely with the Education Director and Visitor Experience Manager to create materials (downloadable resource sheets highlighting collection-based objects) for educators in youth groups to utilize in order to enhance their experience at the ICA, particularly in the summer months.
Researching and documenting the past and present history of Boston Harbor Shipyard, through collection, writing, and interviewing
Writing a concise history of Boston Harbor Shipyard to be used on the museum’s website, Mobile Guide, and interpretive gallery
Creating an FAQ on Boston Harbor Shipyard that can be used for internal purposes
Researching the history of artworks in the Boston Harbor Shipyard commissioned under the Harbor Arts Association, and writing short texts for each artwork to be used for interpretive materials
Consolidating and revising collection-related activity sheets submitted by students from the Massachusetts College of Art & Design and department staff, then developing themes to group the activity sheets for later summer groups to utilize
Qualifications The intern has strong writing and oral communication abilities, is proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel, and is organized and self-directed. S/he has a basic understanding of contemporary art and knows how to use DSL cameras. Knowledge of Spanish desired but not required.
