Curatorial Intern Curatorial research encompasses a range of sources, methods, administrative responsibilities, organization approaches, and documentation. The ICA Curatorial Intern would have the opportunity to conduct in-depth research and provide assistance to two distinct, fundamental parts of curatorial research: a major future exhibition and the permanent collection.
For the latter, the intern would focus on building the ICA’s printed research and object files related to each work in the collection, contacting the artist’s estates, assembling dossiers about artists, and adding important information (i.e. exhibition history, installation plans, materials) to TMS, the ICA’s database management software.
The intern’s work with the planned future exhibition would include creating artist files for artists in one of more of the museum’s exhibitions, gathering installation photography for the artist’s works, drafting potential label copy, working with the curator on the development of a checklist and narrative presentations on the exhibition’s themes, and compiling lists of potential loans.
Qualifications The ideal candidate has strong research and organizational skills. S/he is meticulous about tasks, and will be able to input critical information into a shared database for future use. S/he has a demonstrated interest in contemporary art and artists. Preference will go to students for are familiar with online library research resources and portals.
