In this internship, the student will learn about the inner workings and history of Fleisher’s Wind Challenge Exhibitions Series. Established in 1978, the Wind Challenge Exhibition Series is an annual juried competition that is committed to enriching and expanding people’s lives through art. Three Wind Challenge Exhibitions are held from September through May, featuring the work of exceptional working artists living in the Philadelphia region.
The Exhibitions Archive intern will take the lead on projects meant to serve Fleisher’s internal staff, future Wind Challenge Exhibition winners, and the public at large who wish to utilize an online collection and celebrate 40 years of Philadelphia's well known juried art competition. The intern will gain valuable research, digital media and print skills, as well as experience with Submittable, Fleisher’s online submission software used by many non-profits. Additionally, the intern will complete a comprehensive research project on the 40 year history of the Wind Challenge exhibition program.
Under the supervision of the Director of Communications, work with members of various departments to create and catalogue detailed histories of the museum's past exhibition artists for archival and web use
Research artists that have participated in Wind Challenge, as well as the overall history of the series
Develop print or online materials to celebrate Wind Challenge's 40th anniversary, with a focus on improving the exhibitions connection to the community.
Assist Fleisher’s Exhibition Manager in hanging upcoming shows.
Interest in exhibitions desired
Experience in Marketing and Communications is ideal
Proficiency with website development (wordpress) and databases preferred
Excellent organizational abilities and an eye for detail
Strong communication skills and an adherence to deadlines
Command of Microsoft Office Suite and Wordpress
Occasional weekend and evening hours may be required
