Government & Community Affairs Intern The intern will support El Museo’s Director of Community & Government Affairs in improving the museum’s existing methods of outreach and engagement with the numerous Latino communities in New York City. The intern will assist in identifying community-based organizations and leaders, establishing professional relationships, updating the community relations database, and developing venues and structures to better promote the seasonal exhibition and the museum’s programs.
The project will entail research, internal and external data-gathering, site visits, collaboration with all museum departments, development of distribution strategy, and implementation of outreach-tracking methodology. This internship provides a unique opportunity to gain direct experience and establish contacts in the arts world, particularly among community-based cultural and service organizations.
Qualifications The Government & Community Affairs Intern will need to be a highly-organized individual with good research skills, excellent communication skills, and interest in working with diverse populations. Must know Microsoft Office Suite and be adept with technology. Spoken and written proficiency in Spanish and knowledge of the Latino arts and cultural community are a plus, but not essential.
