Graphic Design Intern

El Museo del Barrio

The theme of this internship is capacity building through Graphic Design & Branding.  We are seeking an intern to help us polish and consolidate branded templates for institutional needs within the established style guidelines of El Museo’s look. The Graphic Design Intern would also be assigned  much needed collateral to support capacity building initiatives such as volunteer recruitment, shop signage and space rentals.  The Graphic Design Intern will obtain a 360 perspective on the inner workings of a non-profit mid-size museum; an opportunity to work in a culturally specific institution; real-life portfolio experience; and learning about the practical challenges of information hierarchy and graphic design within this context.

During the summer of 2012, El Museo will be launching Caribbean: Crossroads of the World, a highly ambitious exhibition highlighting the history and art of the Caribbean from the Haitian Revolution to present.   The exhibition will be presented in collaboration with the Queens Museum of Art and Studio Museum in Harlem.  This will be a high-volume and exciting time in the Marketing & PR office and the Graphic Design intern may be called upon for supporting design projects as they arise related to this exhibition.  Such experience would be valuable in gaining understanding of the needs and challenges of working on large –scale collaborative projects and how that translates into graphic language. This is a relatively new position within the museum, well-suited for someone with an entrepreneurial spirit.

Interested candidates who meet all eligibility requirements should submit all parts of their applications including portfolio samples by e-mail to the contact below. Please see this website’s “HOW TO APPLY” section for more details.
