Institution:
El Museo del Barrio
While working with Curatorial Department, the Intern will be under the supervision of Department Head. S/he will become familiar with the Department's role and perspective in the Museum's mission, which is to fulfill our responsibility as a center of learning and resource for the growing numbers of artists, educators, art historians, and museum professionals interested in Caribbean and Latin American art. The Intern will have unlimited exposure to academic and primary archival materials on and by modern contemporary Latin American and Latino artists (as well as El Museo del Barrio's publications), and never before seen images and texts of works from our own collection. Through the project developing the resource library with the Registrar team, s/he will utilize her/his familiarity with the collection to create expanded offerings in collections-based teaching materials and related programming
The Intern will be primarily responsible for examining and assessing the status of hard file and virtual archives of the collection, and developing new systems to permit access of materials for research purposes. S/he will coordinate digitization with the Assistant Registrar and the Curatorial Assistant. These materials include: artist monographs, exhibition catalogues, art/museum magazines and journals, and other art and museum related literature. In addition to the Artist Archives s/he will work with El Museo's Archives.
S/he will be involved in the Digitization Project, which entails accessing works in the museum's Collection using systems and tools to make them available for museum staff, for researchers/curators, and online for the general public. Duties may involve working with digital images, working with our museum database (The Museum System, or TMS), helping to organize images on our internal network.
