The Intern will assist the Associate Curator and the Curatorial Assistant with the Queens International 2008 exhibition which will open in November 2008. The internship is designed to introduce the planning and researching phase of exhibition production. In addition, this internship will expose the student to many aspects of exhibition preparation including exhibition research, collections inventory, data entry, installation, and object registration, including object movement and tracking. The intern will learn artists' research, review and selection process, curator's work and responsibilities, Curatorial Department's function and how we work with other departments, and technologies and skills used in exhibition planning.
The intern must have strong writing and research skills; good computer skills and familiarity with Windows XP, Power Point, and MS Access; and attention to detail. It will be also helpful to have working knowledge of Photoshop, Illustrator, and basic HTML. The applicant must be able to work independently, and be able to communicate research findings in an organized manner. Bilingualism preferred.
The intern will be responsible for developing and maintaining artists' submission database on MS Access, and will work with the curator during the reviewing process preparing materials for the review presentation, accompanying the curator to studio visits, and researching for the exhibition
