Exhibits and Collections Intern The Exhibits and Collections Assistant will work on two primary projects during the summer.
Exhibit Development – The intern will develop the concepts for 2017-18 special exhibits. Duties will include content research, material and product sourcing, and design and formatting of exhibit text and materials.
Collections Inventory Support – The intern will inventory objects for deaccession, which will enable the museum to provide better classroom kits for hands-on programs. The intern will review the contents of existing Museum-on-the-Go (MoTG) portable collections cases in preparation for the coming calendar year. The intern will also review the contents of the MoTG and complete condition reports for each thematic case.
Through this internship, the Exhibits and Collections Assistant will learn how to navigate the museum’s cataloguing system, the museum database, gain object-handling experience, and contribute to the advancement of hands-on museum programming.
Qualifications The Exhibits and Collections Intern should possess strong writing, research, and critical-thinking skills. The ideal candidate is resourceful and creative, self-directed, and responds well to constructive feedback. The intern should also have an interest in environments that foster learning for family audiences and focus on the artistic and educational development of young children.
